Although it has been more than a month since the tragic loss of life and property on Maui, from the moment the news broke, one of Sea Mercy's volunteer yachts (SV Oceans) stationed in Oahu Hawaii was already purchasing emergency supplies and aid for the thousands of displaced families that lost everything. With the help of other community members, the owners of SV Oceans (Rick & Teri-Jo Rogge) were quickly purchasing personal supplies and aid to load onto their 48-foot sailing catamaran and deliver them to the people in the shelters there. Working through local church leaders and officials in Lahaina, they were able to ensure the aid they were delivering would reach those families in greatest need.
Despite the 30 knot winds and high seas, SV Oceans and crew sailed from Oahu to Maui and quickly met the teams there who helped unload the supplies into waiting trucks to be delivered to the designated shelters and homes on their list. Rick & Teri-Jo are currently planning on organizing another supplies run to continue to help the families in need until their homes and lives can be rebuilt.
